The Children of Lir
A3 sized print of the disturbing tale of the Children of Lir. The original was handdrawn on bristol paper with pencil and fineliners.
This tale disturbed me deeply as a child and I often wondered why artistic depictions were so light and airy. I used mute swans even though they were introduced into Ireland in the 12th century. (if there was ever any truth to this tale, they would actually be whooper swans!) I chose mute swans because of the beatiful black basal knob on their beaks and I wanted that to work in with the dark hair on my characters.
I make these archival quality prints in my home studio, using beautiful fine art papers. This cuts out the middle man, making the prints more affordable and ensuring I can keep the blacks as deep as intended.
